National workforce campaign underway!

Media Release

8 August 2024

The National Workforce Collaboration today welcomed Minister Shorten’s announcement of funding to deliver its What’s my Future campaign to attract and retain a skilled disability workforce.

Convenor Sheryl Boniface confirmed that the Collaboration’s working partnership of people with disability, support workers, advocates, disability service providers and United Workers Union members had co-designed this first-of-its-kind campaign.

Collaboration member Sarah Bown said: “We’re acting now to ensure people with disability have the supports they need. We want to support workers in the industry who want to be there to support us and the What’s my Future campaign shows this”.

Community Living Australia CEO Mark Kulinski agreed. “The workforce is such a cri3cal issue for the disability sector. The What’s my Future campaign demonstrates the values of the people we are seeking and the value of the support they provide”.

“Through co-design we’ve been able to put together an exciting campaign that shows the value of this critical work, said United Workers Union National Disability Sector Coordinator, Mark Whenan.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 32% of people with disability need help with daily self-care, mobility, or communication activities.

The NDIS Review confirmed that by June 2025, an additional 128,000 workers will be needed to provide this life changing support.
